April 10, 2025 — Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, today inaugurated a cutting-edge Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) Laboratory at the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation safety infrastructure.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new DFDR Lab is designed to enhance the capabilities of the AAIB in decoding and analyzing flight data from aircraft involved in incidents and accidents. The lab is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of investigations, leading to more robust safety recommendations.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized the importance of advanced tools in modern aviation safety. “This facility is a step forward in making our skies safer. With this high-end lab, India reinforces its commitment to timely and thorough investigation of aviation incidents,” he said.

The lab features cutting-edge data decoding systems, high-capacity servers, and simulation tools that enable experts to reconstruct flight paths and analyze pilot inputs and aircraft responses in critical situations. It is expected to reduce the dependence on foreign labs and bolster India’s self-reliance in aviation accident investigation.

The establishment of the DFDR Lab aligns with the government’s broader focus on aviation safety, technological self-sufficiency, and improved turnaround time for accident investigations.
